By now, most artists have been introduced to the many types of color pencils we have in our Drawing Center. We had a short demo on the 3 types of colored pencils we have and I encouraged artists to test them out and see what they can can do. The 3 types are: regular colored pencils (sorted by color for ease), metallic colored pencils (shiny ones) and art stix (woodless colored pencils). As a group we talked about how to create darker and lighter colors with all three by pushing hard or soft on the pencils as well as how different but still awesome the art stix are. Check out the pictures below to see the artists working with these different materials in action!

Even our youngest BES artists have been getting involved with new and different art materials. Our preschool artists have been exploring materials in centers in the same ways that the older artists have been. This week we explored painting with tempera cakes for the first time this year. When asked if they would like to use tempera cakes again next week, I was met with a resounding YES!
All of the artists at BES have started the year off with a self portrait. A self portrait is a drawing of you that you draw. The artists had access to a variety of drawing materials to create with and the only requirement of this first piece of artwork is that they had to be in it somewhere. These artists had some very creative ideas & it was definitely a great first start to the year!
** These are currently on the wall at BES all over the building so be sure to swing by and check them out!!** It's hard to believe that summer is over & we are all back in school again. I hope that everyone has had an awesome summer full of relaxation, rejuvenation and fun! I'm so excited to be here at Barnstead Elementary School.
In this blog, I'll be posting photos of the BES Artists working hard in the studio and any other news from the Art Studio here at BES. I'll do my best to update as often as possible. Be sure to check back often to see what these wonderful artists have been working on. -Ms. De Leeuw |
